HEALTH AND SAFETY
OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY PROGRAMS
The Ontario Ministry of Labour requires employers to develop and post in the workplace a written occupational health and safety policy. Guidelines published by the Ministry offer an example of a policy that will suffice for most, if not all employers in meeting this obligation. The next phase of your health and safety program, the development of a program to implement that policy is also a requirement of the Ministry of Labour.
For many employers this task is seen as too complex to undertake as the Ministry gives no guidance as to what constitutes a health and safety program.
The H.E.L.P. Safety Services has assisted numerous employers in developing a health and safety program that will meet the needs of your workplace and the requirements of the law. Topics covered include such things as
the duties of the workplace parties
fork truck policies and operating rules
lock and tag procedures and
work refusal procedures
Custom designed health and safety policy manuals will incorporate any existing policies and procedures in your workplace as well as newly drafted procedures to address specific concerns in your workplace. Any additional requirements that may be in place through a collective agreement are also addressed.
If your concerns relate to the status of your current program and whether or not it is working as you had expected our workplace audits would establish the parameters you should be working towards as well as outlining the current state of affairs in your workplace. The audit can be used as a tool to prepare for a ’Workwell Audit" conducted by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board or as a tool to prepare for an inspection of the facility by the Ministry of Labour.
In the event of orders being left with your firm by the Ministry our investigators can assist with expert knowledge of helping you to comply with Ministry requirements. Our expertise covers machine guarding, chemical handling, WHMIS
fork truck training, hazardous room classification, confined space entry procedures and forensic accident investigations as well as expert witness testimony at inquests and trials.
