Appeals
Any employer, constructor, worker or trade union may appeal an order or decision (or lack of an order/decision) issued by a Health and Safety Inspector or an Employment Standards Officer. Appeal hearings are judicial in nature, may involve legal representation and depending on the complexities of the situation may last several days.
As an alternative, mediation may be initiated with the Ministry of Labour. Appeal mediation boasts a high rate of success, promotes internal communication and can often save literally thousands of dollars.

Multi-Site Joint Health and Safety Committees
The Occupational Health and Safety Act requires that an employer with 20 or more workers at a workplace establish a Joint Health and Safety Committee.
The Act also allows for an employer carrying on business at more than one workplace to obtain Ministry approval for a single Joint Health and Safety Committee covering several workplaces.
Of special interest to municipalities, Boards of Education, multi-site franchise owners, large retail chains and any other operation with multiple locales a reduction in the number of Joint Committees can mean a much more efficient operation of your Health and Safety Program at a fraction of the present cost.
