WORKPLACE HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INFORMATION
SYSTEM (WHMIS)
The Workplace Hazardous Information Materials System (WHMIS) is, in its most
elemental form, a communications system. Within this system is one essential
element; the instruction of workers on hazards and the appropriate precautionary
measures to be taken regarding any number of potentially harmful products in the
workplace.
WHMIS is enacted across Canada through a combination of federal, provincial and
territorial statutes. It places an onus on the suppliers and importers of
certain hazardous materials to provide specific labels and material safety data
sheets (MSDS) to employers when those products are marketed into the workplace.
H.E.L.P Safety Services can assist you with the implementation of your WHMIS
program; from the preparation of Material Safety Data Sheets to the delivery of
in house training program.
Staff at the H.E.L.P Safety Services has extensive experience in the regulatory
aspects of WHMIS and the application of the law to a variety of in-plant
situations. We can provide answers to questions as varied as "How do I deal with
consumer products?" to "What do I have to do for reagents that we make
in-house?"
Our trainers will use examples of your chemical products in both introductory
and task specific WHMIS training program. Learning becomes an enjoyable
experience for your staff while they acquire the knowledge to better perform
assigned tasks in the workplace.
