Firefighters rescued two workers after they fell into a hole at the Halton Waste Management Site in Milton Monday morning.
Gord Fowler, Milton Fire deputy chief, said the two men were working at a leaching chamber on the Regional Road 25 site when they fell roughly 25 feet.
Upon arrival shortly after 8 a.m., firefighters discovered one worker initially believed to be VSA (vital signs absent), but was found to be briefly unconscious and later airlifted to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Fowler said the other man was not seriously hurt and able to “self rescue.” He was released after being assessed following the rope extraction.
Halton Police were also on scene, with media relations officer Jeff Dillon confirming that the incident is now being investigated by the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.
